How to make a website and make money from it

Before reading this article I would like you to know that my first website is getting more than , my name has become a popular Google search keyword and I am making a respectable five digit income every month from my website(s).

I get lots of messages from people asking me how to create website and how to make money out of it. Sadly lots of people expect to be told quick tips like "Buy a domain name, put some content, put Google ads then expect to start making money in few weeks"

Those people usually look for the easy and quick way to make money online and that’s why they are the first ones to fall victims for “Get rich quick” promises and online scams. (see How to become rich online)

The internet is not a money machine but it’s an ordinary market that follows the rules all markets follow, if you learned how to create a successful online business and how to introduce it to a new market then you will be able to make a profitable website.

How to make money out of a website?

• I don’t know programming: You don’t have to know any programming language in order to make a successful website. These days content management packages allows you to choose the free theme you want and create content without knowing anything about the inner works of your site. Of course it would be better to know programming but for the beginning you wont need it. The most famous content management package is "word press"
• It’s a business not a website: The first thing you must understand about your website is that its an online business not just a website. Treating your website as a business means that you must know about marketing, customer service and have a good business background. Don’t be afraid, I am not asking you to complete an MBA degree but at least you should have some business background in order to be able to make money from a website even if you sell nothing on it. • It won’t pay off in weeks: In my book The ultimate guide to making money from the internet I explained how you can cover all of your costs in few weeks and even make few more dollars from your website but real money wont come before you work hard for months. Creating a business requires a marketing strategy, a competitive advantage, branding and loyal customers. All of these factors can’t be developed in few weeks and that’s why people who want to get rich quickly never manage to do it on the internet nor anywhere else

• Focusing on money will never bring you money: Lots of people make the mistake of focusing on monetizing methods while ignoring the fact that a successful websites that has loyal visitors is the main source of money. Focus on having loyal and recurring visitors and you won’t have any trouble making money later on (see How can i make money online
