How to make your website known (Mine is already popular)

how to make your website known

It really pisses me off when I find advices on the web like "if you want to make your website known then submit it to search engines" or "use pay per click advertisements to bring traffic".

I am sure you have read about these advices everywhere and I am also sure no one of them was useful. The problem with these tips is that 99% of them focus on exposing your website to the public instead of focusing on teaching you how to impress people with your site so that they come again and tell their friends about it.

Think of school or college days, there always used to be that popular guy even though everybody knows each other. This means that being exposed to others is not the thing you need in order to make yourself popular. Just as the popular guy was known to be popular, the nerd who was also known to everyone was known to be a nerd.

Your website can never be popular or known even if one million person visited it once but instead it can only be popular if it was impressive enough to let those people come back and bring their friends with them. (see How to make your blog popular).

How to make a popular and known website

My first website is relatively new yet the traffic reached an all time high of almost 500,000 hit last month. Judging from the speed of my site’s growth I assume that within 2 years my website might be one of the top 5000 websites on the internet.

The main reason this happened to me is that out of each 10 people who visit my website at least 3 become loyal visitors. But why do these people become loyal? Simply because my website impresses them.

If you want to have a popular website then you must be sure that its impressive and attractive to those who visit it. If you managed to have such a website then sooner or later your site will become well known. You might have to be patient for few months or even a year but in the end it will become popular. (see The spartan's guide to creating a popular website).

How to impress people by your website?

Why was that popular guy popular in school? Because he was different, he wasn’t as boring as everyone and he used to do things that others couldn’t do, in short, he had a competitive advantage that no else had.

If you manged to find a competitive advantage for your website then made it clear throughout your website then people will admire your site and will remember it.

Everyday we see hundreds of repetitive patterns but our minds are trained to ignore repetitive patterns and so we only remember what is really different or odd.

But take care, a horrible looking website can be remembered because it was too horrible to be forgotten so the key is being remembered for your good competitive advantage and not for anything else. So how can you make your website different? Read my article how to market your website or blog in order to know more about this topic.
